We have a lot of things planned out for you guys this year, so hopefully you’ll have fun and take away as much as possible from our meetings! In addition to our weekly meetings, we’ll have opportunities to shoot with the Environmental Brigade, yearbook, and other off-campus/field trip events. These extracurricular activities aren’t required as a part of PhotC but are encouraged, as they will provide great hands-on experience and (hopefully) fond memories.

Meetings will be held after school every Tuesday (3:50PM – 4:55PM) in Ms. Rogers room (Rm.132). Attendance requirements as well as other classroom/misc. rules can be found at the top bar labeled “Rules”.

(If you’re too lazy… basically, make at least two meetings a month.)

Today we had our first meeting! Basically we covered our goals for this year and introduced the classroom rules. If you missed this first meeting, don’t worry – you’ll have plenty of opportunities to catch up. Next week we’re going over macro, so please bring your cameras and any small objects that you might want to photograph. The contest theme for the following two weeks is “potential”. Feel free to interpret this however you like – be creative!

That’s right, we’re having a Photo Scavenger Hunt. And all the members who showed up today got the list and the entire hour to look for the items.

Basically, what you need to do is find all the things on the list and take a photo of item. One photo per item; one item per photo. The winner will be rewarded with a gift card- and the winner will be judged not only on completion of the hunt but also the quality of their photography. We’ll probably give a point for having the photo of the item and an extra point for quality, or creativity. So this requires a bit of effort!

Here’s the list of items! You have all this week to find them (they can all be found in the school, but if you can find them out of school, that’s okay as well) and we’ll probably give you next meeting as well since so many people didn’t show up. But the clock is ticking. Oh, you can “stage” some items- like the epic swordfight, you can make the footprint yourself, etc. You can move objects to make a nonhuman face. But you can’t draw the item and take a photo of it. Be sensible.

PhotC is meeting next Tuesday on November 24th, but you can leave early at 4:30 p.m. We might be doing macro-box photography on that day, and the Council will probably bring some baked goods to share. For this next meeting, please bring a small, visually interesting object to macro.

Meanwhile, Council members must stay behind next Tuesday, as we’ll be heading to the H/White Windmill/Mozart right after we let out to plan for the rest of the semester and the next, ESPECIALLY THE PHOTOSHOW. Council MUST show up. We’ll most likely be taking the meeting to 5:30pm.

• Also, if possible, try to make a light tent over the weekend using THIS site.

And, of course: FLICKR, FLICKR, FLICKR! We’re only getting participation from maybe four members. We want to see more!

Also, you should be keeping large versions of your photo (a minimum of 2000 px across) in landscape format for when we publish the end of year book, which includes edited photos.

First meeting has passed! If you decide to show up next week, here are some things to note:

• Bring Camera! (Again, camera phones don’t count.) We’ll be using them next week!
• Bring Dues! $5 – if you didn’t already do this, you need to bring it in next week. Cash only please – we don’t do checks.
• Flickr Account! Make one and upload your best picture(s) onto it as a sample, if you have any (if not, take some).

…..yes. It’s Fake-yearbook making time! And so, we’d like to pound down some rules, just to be lame.

First of all, we’d like to fill over 80 pages. Why, you might ask? Well, Blurb doesn’t let you customize the spine until you reach 80 pages. And I really really wanna customize the spine. so please. SEND LOTS OF PICTURES. We’d like for every member to select 7 best shots of sorts…Or more!

Granted that they follow the following guidelines. These are very unflexible guidelines.

THINGS NOT TO DO.

• No camwhoring, group or otherwise.
• No tiny tiny resized images. DEREK.
• Because this yearbook is NOT YOUR FACESPACE.
• No badly manipulated photos. Bad manips burn holes in a photographer’s elbows. So don’t do it.

And….THINGS TO DO. hey look. it’s a to-do list! HOKAI!

• Photos taken within this school year. And July 2008, if you’re desperate.
• Artistic self portraits, which is totally separate from camwhoring. The difference, you ask? Artistic self portraits are artsy, and camwhoring is slutty. or just lame. And in an artistic self portrait, you aren’t being lame enough to hold the camera yourself or use a lame mirror.
• Large, nicely edited photos. doesn’t that sound so awesome?
• Artsyfartsyness! Make Kim proud, even if you’ve never had her for an art teacher.
• Photos of Ayane.
• Black and white photos are kewl. Color photos are kewl too.
• Film is good, as long as you scan at high DPI.  Or, worst case, hand them to Epsi, and I’ll take care of it.
• Vivian is a nonconformist, like hydrogen.

The Council of Dark Magic is to be dark magicking somewhere else.

If you decide to stay afterschool anyway, keep taking pictures of the school – but most of us won’t be there.

Prepare for the upcoming macro contest!

Basically, the theme is macro. All your photo has to be- is a macro. And new. You can’t submit a photo you’ve taken before.

You’re free to do anything else with it. The whole rounded corners shpiel- if you can make it work, go for it. |D

Prizes? We need ideas. Most likely we’ll give you a dollar for a coke from the vending machine unless you actually participate and give us suggestions. So far, Epsi has offered to toss in one toaster button.

But it’s okay, because mainly we’ve been critiqueing photos. (Except last week, I hear we did something awesome and I missed it. D:) And it’d be nice of someone other than the Council critiquing on the photos for once.

ANYWAYS. yes, we critiqued today. But we also brought up the topic of contests! The prizes and dates are still being determined. However, it’s a fact that the first theme will be macros. Very broad, but you can do anything with ‘em – eyes, black and white, diptychs… Start brainstorming ideas! The official start and end date will be announced both here and on the flickr NHS group page.

Book Preview

Enjoy the last week of summer!

PS. We’re looking for someone to update this website next year. Talk to me at the first meeting if you’re interested.

we’d really appreciate it if you could at least pretend to be interested about photography and not the Korean language from time to time.

 Epsi talked a bit about doing fireworks pictures one day, though it’s uncertain how that’s going to work out, as it’s impossible to set fireworks off at school.

 There was a bit of photo critique, and Epsi talked about lighting some.

Yup yup. That’s about it.

 The projector was, as usual, color-impaired. Pink flowers became blue. But basically all we did was critique photos. That later became an ADD-meeting. Like always. Cherry and I started doodling on the board. And everyone else did their own thing. Epsi and…other people were just lookin at photos on Flickr. Though not really for photo-educational purposes.

At the start, it was actually fairly productive. We started out looking at Vivian’s pictures, namely her photo of her sister. We noted that she may have cavities. (The photo was her sis with an open mouth trying to catch snow, giving us a brilliant view of her mouth.)

…we also learned not to use flash on a sunny day. Though I’m still trying to figure out why. D:

 Afterwards, we looked at Jennifer L.’s pictures, who has much potential and stunningly pretty pictures, but just needs to touch-up on them and do little things to improve. ^-^ Good job, Jennifer~

 After much messing around, the website was introduced to everyone and was just…..yeah, everyone now knows about it. And anyone who wants to see their photo on the site to the right of this entry should put their pictures on Flickr into the group pool. And then Epsi’ll feed it onto this site.

 Another note here – apparently Vivian (because we were lame and searched it on Google) lives in California. And there’s actually a “photc.com”. And a Japanese pHOTc (though they spell it funny.) And…yeah.

 Anyways, as some of you probably already now, I’m currently maintainer of this site. So be expecting some changes around here… (once I figure out how some things work. x_o)

So I’m just here to say that I’ve added some new pages and stuff, like  The Council. And I’ve revamped the About page. Though this one may need Epsi to check over. X3

The first link I have is for you Firefox users. That should include all of you. -pokes those still using IE- Anyway, this is the Firefox extension I use to upload photos, Fotofox.

For those of you that don’t like that extension (or are still using IE and can’t use it), there’s something called Juploadr for you. It’s a downloadable program. Flickr also released one, but I don’t feel like linking the link. Comment if you want it, and I guess I’ll link it then.
